Entry requirements

• For a bachelor’s programme: a completed secondary qualification with strong marks — Indian applicants typically present 10th and 12th standard results, and some universities also want predicted grades.
• For a master’s programme: a relevant bachelor’s degree. The minimum percentage or grade is set by each university and programme, so check your shortlist rather than relying on general rules.
• English proof: IELTS or TOEFL is the standard route. Some universities accept a medium-of-instruction letter or run their own placement test — confirm with the specific programme.
• Certain routes — medicine, law, some MBA and research degrees — add entrance tests, interviews or work-experience requirements.
• Documents that are not in English generally need a certified translation.

How the application process works

• Shortlist universities and courses, and confirm entry requirements, the current fee sheet and intake dates.
• Sit the English test — and any subject admissions test — early, because results and re-sits take time.
• Prepare and translate documents: transcripts, degree certificates, passport, photographs, recommendation letters and your statement of purpose.
• Apply through each university’s portal, or through UCAS for undergraduate courses, before the published deadline.
• Accept your offer and satisfy any conditions so the university can issue the documents your visa needs.
• Apply for your UK student visa online once you hold the university documents, and provide biometrics as instructed.
• After the visa is granted, book travel, arrange insurance and accommodation, and complete enrolment on arrival.
